PushButton Engine: A New Flash Engine

Jeff Tunnell and some of the guys from the Torque Game Engine have recently unveiled their latest project. It’s a new flash game engine — they call it the PushButton engine.

What’s most interesting is that Jeff tells us that the engine is open source! They have licensed things under the MIT license meaning you’re free to take the code, modify it, and incorporate it into a commercial product. He also announced plans to open a “component store” which developers can use to sell extensions to the core framework. It will be interesting to see what the community does with all of this — it’s a neat idea and I wish him the best of luck with the novel business model.

Anyway, if you’re in the market for a flash game engine or just curious go check it out! According to the PushButton site the engine features a full stack of components which should speed up game development time. What I’m most interested in, though, is hearing about the supposed paths from flash to other platforms. Guess we’ll have to wait for the official release to find out more, though!
