Contest Updates

I recently heard back from one competition about Fluster. Unfortunately, JZ and I didn’t win but that’s OK because there were a lot of great submissions. We still have two more contests to hear back from but to be honest I don’t think we’ll win them. Some more thoughts about the whole process after the fold, plus a new contest to enter!

Recently, the 2Bee Games contest announced its finalists and sadly Fluster didn’t make the cut. There were a lot of great, polished games submitted, such as Auditorium, which were hard to compete against. Anyway, I’m not bitter about losing but I am angry about how the guys over at 2Bee handled the entire contest.

From the beginning there was a fair amount of confusion surrounding the contest. Initially it was due to the way the rules were written then later it was concerns about when the results of the contest would be announced. Worst of all, though, is the complete lack of feedback from the judges. Throughout the process I was told we would be seeing the judges’ feedback — and really that’s one of the most valuable parts of entering a contest like this — and at this point I don’t think we’ll ever see it. All of this is to say, think twice before expending a great deal of energy for the 2Bee games contest unless you can submit to a few other competitions at the same time. Hopefully, I’ll see some more feedback from the judges for the PAX10 and Indiecade contests.

Anyway, there’s no use crying over spilled milk and I’ve begun working on a few new projects. Obviously, I’ve been thinking a lot about Null Op and steering behaviors lately, but just today I came across a new competition which might be fun. It’s the Word Play contest by Mochi Ads / Dictionary.com. The goal is, surprise, to create a word game by August 14th. Right now I’m considering whipping something simple and wordy together to submit.

Anyway, I hope your games are going well and if you’ve got some spare time why not make an addictive word puzzler?
